SLIP-AND-FALL CASE AWARDED $12.2 MILLION
A jury awarded a Virginia woman $12.2 million in damages for negligence by a Miller Mart store. As the Plaintiff walked into the Miller Mart to purchase gas and a paper, she slipped on a small puddle created by a leaky awning, fell forward onto her chest and chin, and lost consciousness. Miller Mart’s owners, Miller Oil Co., admitted they had known the outside curb was dangerous. Plaintiff returned to her job several days later but was unable to concentrate or multitask, and began to suffer seizures. Plaintiff ran a spa and was a stylist, after the accident she was no longer able to do her job. Plaintiff’s doctors diagnosed her with "post-concussion" symptoms. Moral of story: Be aware of conditions on your premises and correct dangerous conditions.
